16 New Hunters Certified in the CVCC Internet Based Class
On Saturday, April 24 th, 16 students participated in the required Field Day to complete the first ever internet-based CVCC sponsored WI DNR Hunter Safety Education class. The students along with 6 instructors and the District Safety Warden, Bill Yearman, spent the morning outside in the rain shooting .22's and 20 ga. shotguns, demonstrating safe gun handling skills, practicing crossing obstacles, following simulated blood trails, learning safe tree stand techniques and reviewing ethical hunting techiniques and procedures. Students and instructors then warmed up, dried out and ate lunch in the clubhouse while Warden Yearman covered hunting laws and answered questions.
Students next completed the written and practical tests. All 16 students passed with a class average of 96% (Matching the average of our regular class students earlier this year). The class consisted of 6 adults and 10 youth with one student traveling from the Superior area to complete the class.
The instructors for the class were Roger Anderson & Charlie Nelson - Gun Handling and live firing on the shooting range, Steve Pauloski & Lillian Primmer - Action types, ammunition and tree stand safety, and Corky Roethel & Royce Curtis - Crossing Obsticles, simulated hunts and following blood trails. Warden Yearman critiqued the day with the instructors, felt that it went extremely well and highly encouraged us to consider doing it again.
