Jeff Sturgis from Whitetail Habitat Solutions will host an upcoming "Deer Habitat and Hunting" Day at the Coon Valley Conservation Club. Jeff is a CVCC member and has an extreme passion for all that is deer and deer hunting, including developing hunting land and hunting stand set-ups, of which he began to write about in 2003. In 2004 Jeff received the National 2004 Al Brothers Deer Manager of the Year award from the QDMA. Jeff has been a lifetime member of the QDMA since the late 90s and was deeply honored when Brian Murphy, the Executive Director of the QDMA, called to inform him of the award.

After the award, as well as from hunting forum writings and additional published articles, Jeff began to receive calls from across the country from guys simply wanting to get some advice for their own lands they hunted. In 2005 he began a new career with a business he started called "Whitetail Habitat Solutions" that eventually turned into a full time profession in 2010 with dozens of clients a year in 11 states and counting. In 2003 he also began speaking about his passion all across MI from QDMA branch meetings, hunt clubs, public informational meetings, antler roundups, habitat days, and for various hunting or deer management themed banquets now extending into WI, OH, and IL.

Jeff has found that what he experienced or learned for the most part could not have been taught in a typical classroom, but instead had to be accumulated by spending literally 1000s of hours doing everything deer and deer hunting in many states and many different types of property…over and over again. Talking about it, writing about, discussing it and experiencing it on his own has been the best teacher. The woods, swamps and fields have been his classroom whether its has been for his own pursuits or for his clients.

Now in 2012 what he does is to take his 27 years of pursuing his passion, and then he professionally transfers those pursuits into the enhancement of his client’s hunting and habitat experiences. In total Jeff has enjoyed over 60 combined deer seasons in 7 states while pursuing whitetail deer, including over 100 "out of state" do-it-yourself hunts on private and public lands. Jeff has been blessed to own and improve habitat on land in both a southern MI ag region, as well as on a parcel in a UP of MI wilderness area. At one time Jeff enjoyed the challenge of planting 18 acres of no-till food plots on his own or leased parcels in the states of MN, MI, and WI and has maintained over 50 stand locations in 3 states at 1 time. Jeff prides himself in hunting healthy herds by taking does when necessary to maintain a balance with the habitat, as well as by taking on the challenge of hunting the oldest bucks in the neighborhood while experiencing a high success rate.

Jeff feels extremely fortunate to be able to continually hone the skills of his passion during every month of the calendar year on both the lands he hunts, and on the lands of his clients. Jeff loves writing and speaking about what he does, as well as by offering various habitat events and site visits to assist others in doing the same. What began as a passion of hunting squirrels in the treetops of southern MI has grown into a passion to assist others in taking from his experiences, both his success and his failure, while saving you as the hunter 1000s of hours of learning, and 1000s of dollars in perfecting your passion. If you follow his writings you will also see that Jeff has a passion for sharing and defining all that he knows.
